First, 1.Sometimes when we make a template change we normally encounter an error message (especially if you are a newbie) try to familiarize this error message such "Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly. XML error message: The document type declaration for root element type "html" must end with '' > ". It happens if you just copy and paste the new template code to your HTML page. But, however try not to copy paste the code otherwise browse and upload the new template from your computer drive. I'm Pretty sure you will not encounter such problem.
Second, Backup your current template, save it on your hardrive, you can do that by clicking the download full template from the EDIT HTML page, it is located above on the page
Third, Usually, when we download or saved a template it's already in the folder and you need to separate that xml document file or pick that xml document among of those files in the folder otherwise you will be having an error code.
